Alster

The tour Alster leaves from the Side Design Hotel. From here, we pass the Emporio Tower and continue to Brahms Kontor building and Gängeviertel with the Brahmsquartier. Our route leads us over Fleet Island and along Neuer Wall to the Chamber of Commerce building with its interesting ‘building within a building’ concept developed by Behnisch Architekten. After passing along Jungfernstieg, we cross Rathaus square, where you will see the Town Hall, and arrive at Domplatz square, site of Hamburg’s first cathedral, with the planned Dom Quartier. The tour ends in the venerable Kontorhausviertel district (UNESCO world heritage), home to many early 20th century office buildings.

The tour illustrates the interplay of the pulsating city with the brick architecture of the Hanseatic period.
